Quilt Show Pin Quilt

My friend, Sue, gave me these wonderful hand-dyed fabric squares to make this quilt to display the pins I get from the quilt shows I go to.  I think she came up with a wonderful idea.

Of course, you can see I have lot more quilt shows to go to to fill this thing!!  I really like that I have someplace to display my ribbons too.  My second place ribbon from two years ago has just been sitting in drawer.   How did I hang that you ask?  I used the new magnetic hanging system I picked up at the AQS quilt show this summer.

You don't have to put any holes in the wall at all!  It uses the 3M command strips and a very powerful magnet.

Then attach some metal to the wood stick your going to use in the sleeve or you could use a metal rodIt is just amazing how well it holds up your quilt.  I can't wait to try it on some other quilts throughout the house.

I enjoyed quilting this project, on the squares I did a mindless horizontal stitch.  I say mindless because I did not worry about keeping my lines straight.  Talk about stress free quilting!!  Then on the border I did some fun stitches from my machine.

Cubicle Sweet Cubicle

I made this little guy a couple weeks ago for my cubicle at work.

Its the only thing I have in my cubicle right now.  I was going to take some pictures to put in my desk but the space is very limited.  One coworker has a digital frame that she put alot of photos on and it changes all day long.  I'm thinking this is what I would like to do also.

I have guild board meeting tonight.  I plan on sewing the binding on a wall hanging I can't wait to show you!

Pinwheels

Here is a quick job I did for TerriI don't know the story behind them.  They could be that wonderful find from a garage sale or estate sale.  I bet someone found them lost and all alone in some attic!

It was a very simple job.  The blocks were all hand made and when I went to trim them none of the seams were going to match up, so I just had to sew them together and put a border on.  It is a very wonderful quilt and will be made even better when Terri works her quilting magic on it.

The white border fabric is new so it is much brighter than the white in the blocks.  I wish I knew of a way to make it look old without damaging it.  Kinda like when crooks try to make counterfeit paintings look old, something like that but with fabric. Hmmm!

Similar

Here are the other two Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll quilts that were in the show.

This is Terri's, she is the one that asked me to do the mystery quilt with her.  So she started this wonderful adventure!! Terri did not add the pieced border.  She had had enough piecing when she got the main part done!!

This was done by Sara.  She chose different colors than what Bonnie Hunter had directed.  This can be a very tricky thing because you don't know what your making when you start a mystery quilt!  It turned out wonderful.

And here is mine again with my Auntie Ann, who came to the show with her friend Lynn.  I think it was very fun to see the same pattern done differently.

Quilts by Friends

I am still so excited about my 1st place blue ribbon in the Bed Quilts -Pieced-Hand/Machine Quilted category.  Mine was machine quilted, of course!
I wanted to share some of my friends quilts.

This is Sue's , doesn't it look yummy!

This is Betsy's that also was in the AQS show!

These are Lisa's entries.  Its so much better when you can get the artist with their quilt!!

This is Sandy's quilt.  Sandy taught me how to applique.  She does excellent work!

Austin's Quilt

We are so proud of Austin and his quilt!
Austin holding his ribbon.
He came to the show yesterday and got to see his quilt hanging.  He got lots of wonderful compliments.
He spent the rest of the tour through the quilt show talking about what his next quilt would be!  We really enjoy the time we get to spend with him.

First Place!!!!!!!!!!

I am just stunned!
I could not believe that I got a first place ribbon.  Yeah, you bet I cried when I saw it!  I'm still in a state of shock.  But like one of my friends commented that all that hard work paid off.  I am just thrilled.
When I first saw it I thought, Oh that's nice I got a judges choice award.  Then when I looked at the ribbon and it said first place, I had to step back and look at the quilt cause I thought maybe it was my friend Terri's quilt, cause she did the same one.
I had to look a couple times at the ribbon, I just could not believe it.

Small Quilt Auctin

I spent the afternoon getting things ready for the Small Quilt Auction at the Quilts on the Grand Quilt Show.  I had lots of wonderful help so it went up very fast!  We had a fabulous amount of stunning quilts and other things donated.  I am just amazed!  You will have to come down to the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids and place your bids!

Its going to be a wonderful Auction, I hope we make lots of money.  Remember its for the babies!
