Little Chicken Birthday Present

I received this wonderful birthday present!  Thanks so much, Betsy!

Isn't it the cutest little thing! That little yo-yo wing is only a half inch!

It was made by the Yo-Yo ladies of Paducah  out of their Dogwood line of fabric. I just can't get over how wonderfully cute this little guy is!!  Betsy, your the best!

Phone Quilt completed

I think it turned out okay, but let me tell you it was not fun!!  I used Peltex 72F as my batting and it was not fun sewing on it.  My tread kept breaking.  I changed my needle twice and still it was a pain!  So my thinking was that sewing threw the Peltex was screwing up the tension.  I even used my new Tribute 140C to sew the binding on and it still broke the thread.  So then when I went to sew my sleeve on I used a different thread and wouldn't you know it worked fine.  Granted, I was only sewing a 12 inch line but it was much better.  So my conclusion is that my Superior thread did not like the Peltex.  I love my Superior thread and will continue to use it but now I know (and you do too!) that it does not work well on Peltex!

Here is a fun angle shot of my cord.  I used aluminum jewelry wire to make it.  This is why I used Peltex for my batting.  I needed something that would support the wire on the quilt.  I also used antique pearl buttons on the dial.
I designed this stitch on my sewing machine.  I wanted it to look kinda like a phone cord.  I was so proud of it, but it took so long to stitch out because of my thread breaking issues that I was disgusted with it!  At least it is all done now!
I also finished a beehive pincushions.  This is going to be the First Prize at the Small Quilt Viewers Choice Contest at the West Michigan Quilt Guild's July meeting.  The bee pins I made using Shrinky-Dinks.  So fun!!

Phone Quilt update

I just wanted to give you a look at my progress on my phone quilt.

I added the circles and gray metal thingy(?!) and the borders of course.  When its done it should be about 15"x 18", so not too big at all.  Just a nice cute little wall hanging.  Next I'll be getting the cord made and attached, be ready to be amazed!!

Shhhhh.....

Look what I snuck into my studio!

It's the Husqvarna Viking Tribute 140C!
I love it!  It's great to have a second machine to sew on while my  embroidery machine is going.  I have been saving my money from all the bags I've sold and other sewing things I've made money from.  Next I need to save for a long-arm sewing machine!!LOL!  Like that would ever happen!

Here is what I have been working on with my new Tribute machine.  This is going to be a small quilt for the small quilt auction at the October Quits on the Grand Quilt showToday I also start my new full time job, so I'll have less time to play in my studio.  I'll keep you updated.

Reunion

Well the family reunion was a great event!  Everyone loved the quilt and wanted to win it!  But there could only be one winner and that was my cousin, Becky!  I was very glad she was the winner.
We really did have a fantastic time.  I got to spoil my niece, Sophia!  I gave her pop and cookies and caramel corn!  Sophia's little sister, Gabriella (Gabbie) was just a little wiggle worm!

Show Shirts

This is the logo for the Quilts on the Grand quilt show this year.  I digitized it and I'm now embroidering it on our shirts.  I think it turned out okay.  I'm just never sure where to put it on the shirt!

In other news, I have finally procured a job!  So now I have to try to fit all my extracurricular obligations around it!  Okay, I've got to go finish 24 more shirts now.

Reunion Raffle Quilt Part Five

Its Finished!

I finally got the binding all finished and put the label on the back.  Then it got a gentle wash with some biodegradable soap.  I like Soak, its a rinse free biodegradable soap with nice scents to choose from.  This way you don't have to worry about running it through a rinse cycle and wondering if all the soap got rinsed out.

I put some tables out in the garage so it was out of the sunlight but would dry quickly in the extreme summer heat!  I could not believe how quick it dried.

Around the edge of the quilt label I put all the first names of the Prestin siblings.  It is the descendants of these siblings that make up our family reunion. I should have used a darker color of thread for the names.  I also added my web address under the June 2012, but it does not show up well.  I'm excited to see who will win it!

Bibs and burp rags

My good customer, Cathy, asked to have these made for her nephews baby.  I really like the burp rags I found at Bye Bye Baby.  They are long shoulder width strips of doubled terry cloth with a nice gingham trim.  I embroidered my infamous "baby's name" burped here! on them.  Then I embroidered some bibs in different fonts.  I love doing the kids font in several different colors.  The navy blue bib is embroidered in an athletic font but it doesn't come through very well in the picture.  Trust me it looks great!  Now Cathy is all set for the baby shower in a couple weeks and she'll have the best gift there!
