Reunion Raffle Quilt Part Four

Layout of blocks
I have been very busy getting this quilt finished.  It was a little tricky laying out the blocks because I did not want any like fabrics to be touching.   I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.  As I was making my blocks I was loving that I had very few points cut off on the triangles, then after I sewed the blocks together I lost many points.  I've been told by a couple people that I've shown this to that I'm being to critical!

After the border was on I rushed over to my LQS (local quilt shop) to get some thread and backing fabric, plus I realized I forgot to include binding fabric with my initial purchase of the border fabric.
Pinning the quilt sandwich
Then I spent the rest of the day pinning the quilt sandwich together.  I took several breaks to make sure my joints stayed kink free!! When I got to the end of my pinning I was out of safety pins and had to scrounge around to find some more in my studio.  I have several stuck in two other quilts waiting to be finished.  This is why you should finish your quilts after pinning them, you may need the pins someplace else!

This has been me the last couple days!!   I have to finish quilting the borders.  Then  tie and hide several thread tails, perfect project to do while watching TV!

Alice in Wonderland

I made this bag back in April, but was unable to share it because it was a birthday gift for someone.  Well the gift has been given, so now I can share it with you!  It really turned out great.  I didn't take a picture of the pockets inside but  I fussy-cut them to use more of the panel fabric that came in the series.  I was also asked to make a Knitting Dopp Kit to match.

Grand Rapids Public Museum

My brothers family came up to Grand Rapids on Saturday and I spent the day with them at the Grand Rapids Public museum.
The theme was games, they had a bunch of games set up on the main floor.  Jordan and Andrew played a game of chess.

I, of course, wanted a picture with the Q for Quilts display!! Only one quilt shown, very disappointing.  They should have a permanent place to display at least 20 quilts at all times and rotate them!

They had a few dress up interactive places, for the kids!

I had a great day, I always enjoy spending time with them.

Reunion Raffle Quilt Part Three

I got the first set of blocks done.  Then I just repeated all my steps with the second pile of fabric and finished the second set of blocks.  I don't think I mentioned before but the name of the block is Jacob's Ladder.
Here are some blocks from the first set.

These are from the second set.

So far so good, I only noticed a couple small points that were cut off.   Now I have to find a large enough space on my floor to lay them all out .

Reunion Raffle Quilt Part Two

I have to tell you how wonderful it is to be making a quilt!  I have spent so much time making bags and other things, I just have had no time to quilt.  And let me tell you how much my feet hurt!  Standing and ironing over and over and standing and trimming over and over!  I really need to see about getting one of those spongy kitchen floor mats for my studio.  Did I mention that I have to have this done in a month!  Anyway, let me share my progress with you.
I sewed my strips together and pressed them.  The 4" x 8" blocks I sewed them to make four 3 1/2" half square triangles of each set.

I cut my strips into 2" sections.

And turned them into five 4-patch blocks of each set.  Aren't these fabrics just yummy!

This is a layout of the two blocks.

Now I get to put the first set of blocks together!  Fun, fun, fun.....

Reunion Raffle Quilt Part One

This summer we are having a Prestin family reunion. This is with my paternal grandmothers family and we (the Buller's) are hosting the grand event.  There is going to be a raffle to raise money to help pay for renting the hall and other expenses.  I was asked to make a quilt that will be the main raffle item.
It will be like this only different!! This is a general idea of what the blocks will be. The finished quilt will also have 30 blocks not 20 like this diagram.  Every other block will be reversed, pieced with the neutral as dominate in the design. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, it will all become very clear.  Just wait, you'll see.
I have 30 different fabrics, 15 color fabrics and 15 neutral fabricsLet me just tell you how fun that was, shopping for 30 different fabrics!! It was difficult to find 15 neutrals that were in that cream, beige or white group.  Almost all of the prints were from the civil war section of the store.  I just love civil war fabric!   I cut them into 2" strips and 4"x 8" blocks.  Now the magic begins.....

Welcome to the farm

The last five are done! I really like how this bag turned out. The embroidery took so long to stitch out but it was worth every minute.  Of course, the bag I made for myself has more chicken themed prints in it!
There will be no rest for my sewing machine!  I've got to get some knitting dopp bags made for a Grand Skein and get the quilt for my family reunion made!  Oh Boy!

Lucy! I'm home!

Here are the I love Lucy bags.  WooHoo!

I still have to go get a box to ship these off, I don't know if they will all fit in one box!!  Two of these are already sold.
On another subject, I have my sleeves done on my sweater I'm knitting.  Isn't it great when you get things accomplished!

I've been busy....

...sewing, sewing, sewing! I've got these 10 bags almost done! I just wanted to give you a little tease before they are done! I'm very excited to see how they turn out and I'm happy to say one of them is for me! I love it when I can do something for myself.
I'll post more pictures when I get them all done!
